Giving a boost to the Centre's cashless policy, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has made compulsory digital payments above Rs 500 in case of several taxes imposed by it, including property tax.
Receipts of tax on advertisement, registration of pet dogs, car parking charges, trade licenses, booking of community centers for weddings, sale of land and buildings, conversion to free hold and development charges from private parties have been made fully cashless by accepting payments through debit cards, credit cards, PayValet and internet banking, a senior official of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) said.
One-time charges on new vehicles, mixed use charges of municipal land, one-time parking charges on vehicles, toll tax and deficiency charges and development charges will be accepted only through Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), he said.
The electricity tax will be payable through RTGS and National Electronics Fund Transfer (NEFT), the official said.
The civic body official stated that the decision was taken by SDMC commissioner Punit Kumar Goel in view of the Digital India campaign and it emphasises the need of adopting cashless transactions.
The payments related to property tax, theater tax, tax on building application, escrow account of conversion charges, tax on horse-drawn vehicles, milch tax, Tehbazari, all fees and fines, rent and income from auction, miscellaneous receipts and registration of birth and death charges will be received in cash only up to Rs 500.
