SDPI secretary and Advocate A Syed Abdul Kathar sought the tests on ADSPs Karthikeyan and Marirajan CB-CID, Special Investigation Team and Special investigation Division and Inspector Madasamy.
In his petition he recalled the communication of former Superintendent of Police S Balakrishnan to DGP, recommending action against a Head constable of Special Investigation cell, accused of having links with police informers, who were allegedly behind planting of bombs at various places, including on the yatra route of BJP leader L K Advani here in 2011.
He had also charged informers of the cell with hampering the investigation and creating a deep division between the District Special Team and Intelligence Units.
Kathar recalled that in a similar case in Podhanur in Coimbatore district, where police had registered cases against informers, the ADSP there had filed a report that the case was false and recoveries were fake. During investigation, polygraph test was used, he said.
He sought a similar test on the three police officials to ascertain if they were 'harassing' innocent Muslims in Nelpettai and whether the cases filed against them were genuine or not. He also prayed that the tests be carried out in the presence of a senior counsel.
The Petitioner sought to transfer the Nelpettai blast cases to CBI contending that CB-CID officials were harassing innocent people and torturing them to extract information.
Commissioner of Police (CoP), Madurai, had opposed the plea for a CBI probe, denying the charges and saying they were defamatory in nature.
On the petitioner's claim that the CoP had categorised one of the explosions as mild in intensity, he said he was duty bound as the highest ranking police officer in the city to narrate the incidents to the public. But at the same time that should not create any panic in society.
