One of the passengers landing at the new terminal included actor Boman Irani, on a visit to the city from Mumbai.
Two new conveyor belts have been installed at the domestic section of the terminal.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been carrying out modernisation work on the terminal since November 2008. After missing the deadline several times, it is supposed to be inaugurated in October.
With a capacity to handle 54,000 passengers daily, the terminal will be an L-shaped structure with two-tiers for arrivals and departures.
It will also have a two-level underground parking to accommodate 1,250 cars.
