Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today urged the vice-chancellors (VCs) of universities to secure the future of the coming generations while selecting faculty members and lay greater emphasis on vocational education which was the "need of the hour".
Addressing a state-level conference of VCs, organised by the Haryana Higher Education Department here, he asked them to identify the areas for quality education so that the state could emerge as an "education hub" in the real sense of the term, said a release.
Khattar said the VCs served as heads of universities for a limited period of time but the faculty they recommended for selection rendered service for around 35 years to shape the destiny of the future generations.
He stressed on transparency in the recruitment process and said there should be no compromise on such issues. "A good faculty is essential in higher education for providing quality education to the youth so that they could grow as good citizens of the state and the nation," he said.
Maintaining that "employment-oriented education" was the need of the hour, the Chief Minister said universities should also lay emphasis on skill development of the youth so that they could become "employable".
Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Vijai Vardhan, Director, Higher Education Vikas Yadav, VCs of state universities and other officers of the department were present on the occasion.
