Spurred by Bollywood potboilers, a 19-year-old private security guard allegedly plotted and pulled off abduction of a minor boy whom he wanted to take revenge on his colleagues after growing up, but the reality of world forced him to release the boy soon as he could not arrange for his sustenance.
The guard, identified as Kamlesh Chauhan, a resident of Igatpuri in neighbouring Nashik district, was apprehended from his hometown yesterday, said Deputy Police Commissioner Mahesh Patil.
The accused had freed the boy within three days after kidnapping him as he had no enough money to feed the child, police said.
According to police, the eight-year-old boy was kidnapped on June 14 from Chunabhatti area in Mumbai and an FIR was registered in Chunabhatti police station, following which the Crime Branch has begun parallel investigation.
A CCTV footage revealed that Chauhan had boarded a train at the railway station.
"However, three days after the kidnapping, the boy was found safe in a park in Chunabhatti area. On the basis of information provided by the boy and CCTV footage, police learnt that the guard was limping," Patil said.
Acting on a tip off, Chauhan was apprehended from Igatpuri and handed over to Chunabhatti police station which placed him under arrest, police said.
"During the interrogation, Chauhan revealed that he used to work in Mumbai and was recently transferred to Nashik by the security firm. His colleagues in Mumbai used to harass him and he wanted to take revenge from them," said Patil.
"Taking idea from old movies, the accused decided to kidnap a boy, raise him and then take revenge by ensuring that the boy thrashes those who harassed him," Patil added.
However, the accused abandoned the boy as he had no money to feed him and then went back to Igatpuri, the officer added.
