Select pulses extend fall on low demand, higher supply

Prices of select pulses, led by urad, plunged by up to Rs 400 per quintal at the wholesale pulses market today following fall in demand from retailers at prevailing levels against pick up in supplies.
Traders said besides easing demand from retailers at current levels, improved supplies in the market after the government took steps to curb prices, kept pressure on urad and
a few other pulses prices.
Meanwhile, pulses production fell by 4 per cent to 16.47 million tonnes in the 2015-16 crop year due to drought in many states.
In the national capital, Urad and its dal chilka local dropped by Rs 400 each to Rs 9,000-10,400 and Rs 9,200-9,300 per quintal respectively.

Its dal best quality and dhoya traded lower by a similar margin to Rs 9,300-9,800 and Rs 9,700-10,000 per quintal respectively.

Gram shed Rs 100 to Rs 8,100-8,300 per quintal. Its dal local and best quality enquired lower by the same margin to Rs 8,500-8,700 and Rs 8,800-8,900 per quintal respectively.
Besan Shaktibhog and Rajdhani quoted lower at Rs 3,720 each instead of Rs 3,820 per 35 kg bag.
Masoor small and bold also settled lower at Rs 6,000-6,200 and Rs 6,050-6,250 from previous levels of Rs 6,000-6,300 and Rs 6,050-6,350 per quintal respectively. Its dal local and best quality traded lower by Rs 100 each to Rs 6450-6950 and Rs 6550-7050 per quintal. Malka local and best quality followed suit and lost Rs 100 each at Rs 7,100-7,400 and Rs 7,200-7,500 per quintal respectively.

Moth too ended lower by Rs 100 to Rs 5,200-5,600 per quintal.
