'Selfie' bid misfires, man falls down from hilltop

A 25-year old man is feared dead after he tripped while trying to take a 'selfie' along with his friends and fell into the valley from a hilltop in this famous summer resort town, police said today.
Karthik, belonging to PP Kulam in Madurai, had come here yesterday along with two of his friends. After sight-seeing and visiting tourist destinations they allegedly consumed alcohol, the police said.
Later, they went to a hilltop with pronounced rocky formations locally referred as 'mountain beauty' allegedly through forest areas prohibited for tourists, they said.
When they were about to start from the hilltop, the youth proposed to take a selfie even as his other friends were chatting.

While he was trying to take the selfie, he tripped and fell down into the valley below, suspected to be over 1000 feet deep, police said.
"Fire and Rescue Services personnel and we are trying our best to locate the person who fell down. So far, the efforts have not succeeded," a police official here told PTI.
