Railways has allowed its senior officials in key posts to undergo a short training course at Carnegie Mellon Univeristy in the US to sharpen their strategic management skills to face new challenges.
Twenty senior officials including General Managers, Additional Members and Chief Administrative Officers involved in crucial construction work will be visiting the Carnegie Mellon varsity in Pittsburg from August 22 to 27, said a senior Railway Ministry official.
Earlier, all Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) had gone in phases to SDA Bocooni in Milan for a two-week training in high-speed train service and effective planning.
The practice of sending DRMs and GMs for higher training was discontinued in 2009 by the then Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.
However, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has given a green signal for such training on requirement and merit basis.
Previously GMs were sent to Stern School of Business in New York, while DRMs were going to HEC Paris for their skill upgradation training.
Now railways has selected Carnegie and SDA Bocooni for higher-level training.
