The benchmark BSE Sensex rose over 70 points in early trade today as value-based buying in stocks of banking, auto, metal, PSUs, oil & gas and power sectors led the recovery amid a mixed trend at other Asian markets.
The 30-share index, which had lost 713.14 points in the previous three sessions, recovered by 70.92 points, or 0.26 per cent, at 27,247.91.
On similar lines, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty edged up by 16.45 points, or 0.20 per cent, at 8,230.25 in early trade.
Brokers said fresh buying by investors at prevailing levels amid a mixed trend at other Asian markets positively influenced the domestic trading sentiments.
Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel shares were trading a shade higher at Rs 392 per scrip ahead of the company's fourth quarter earnings to be announced later today.
Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.49 per cent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.13 per cent in early trade today.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.23 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
