The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanaryana, before which a petition filed by A Narayanan of 'Change India' came up, said, "It is trite to say that there is increase in drinking habits and thus, it is necessary to ensure that the age bar rule is enforced effectively."
In his petition, Narayanan sought a direction to the authorities to prevent the sale of alcohol to people below 21 years and they should not be permitted to consume liquor.
Advocate General A L Somayaji assured the bench that the government would take necessary steps and due publicity given.
