SER registers 7.65 pc growth in freight earnings in 2016-17

South Eastern Railway has registered a growth of 7.65 per cent in freight earnings in 2016-17, having loaded 147.73 million tonnes of goods.
Registering a growth of 10.01 per cent, SER has surpassed the previous highest loading of 134.29 million tonnes achieved in 2015-16 by 13.44 million tonnes, an SER spokesperson said today.
SER, known as the blue chip zone of Indian Railway, has surpassed Railway Board's freight loading target of 141.75 million tonnes for 2016-17 by loading 4.22 per cent more than the target, the spokesperson said.
SER generated freight earnings of Rs 11,168.08 crore in 2016-17, which is Rs 793.63 crore more than the previous financial year, registering a growth of 7.65 per cent, he said.

Loading of iron ore during 2016-17 was 85.65 million tonnes, recording a growth of 16.01 per cent in comparison to the previous fiscal.
The other major components of freight loading were 25.12 million tonnes of coal, 15.52 million tonnes of pig iron and finished steel and 10.55 million tonnes of cement.
