In the wake of increased attempts by Pakistan's ISI to spoof calls, Union Home Ministry has asked Department of Telecom to set up a technical committee for finding a solution to the menace in a "time-bound-manner".
Taking strong exception to the delay on part of the DoT, Home Ministry sources said a matter of such importance needs to be taken up at the earliest as in certain cases Pakistani intelligence operatives have successfully been able to gather information as well as place malware in BSNL sites which may result in compromising the integrity and security of the system.
According to a note sent to DoT, the Home Ministry drew the attention of unsolicited and spurious phone calls made by foreign intelligence operatives, especially from Pakistan, by using spoofed or manipulated Call Line Identification.
Intelligence Bureau had also in April this year suggested urgent setting up of a technical committee but there was no movement from the DoT, the sources said.
"...DoT may like to constitute a technical committee to examine the spoofed calls-related issue in detail for best possible solutions for taking up the same for implementation in a time-bound manner," the note said.
