Seven held for ONGC crude oil theft in Sivasagar Jorhat

At least seven persons were held for oil pilferage from ONGC oil pipelines between Rudrasagar and Gelekey oil well stations in Sivasagar district in upper Assam today, police said.
On a tip-off Police apprehended the seven persons when they were pumping out crude oil from two pipelines at a place between Rudrasagar and Gelekey oil stations, said Bijoy Kouligam, Additional SP Sivasagar.
A mini truck loaded with nine crude oil filled drums of 200 litres each was also recovered from deep inside Mezanga Reserve Forest through which the pipeline passes, Kouligam said.
ONGC had reported to police that they were receiving less quantity of crude than recorded in Rudrasagar oil well since the last one month, he said.
The seven identified as Diganta Kumar Nath, Biplob Borgohain, Ratul Chutia, Dibjyoti Dutta, Biswajit Hazarika, Papu Pator and Bitu Das were in police custody after being producing in the Sivasagar Chief Judicial Magistrate court here today.
