Several arrested as teachers' protest enters third day

Thousands of teaching staff were arrested in various parts of South Tamil Nadu for staging a demonstration for the third day today to press for their 15-point charter of demands which included pay on par with the central government teachers.
The picketing programme, which began on Jan 30, continued for the third today.
In Madurai, 1700 teachers were arrested for picketing near the collectorate today.
Meanwhile, in Theni around 1500 teachers were held for holding a protest.
