Shamli clashes: 1 arrested, cases against 26

Son of the village head has been arrested and cases against 26 persons registered in connection with the clashes that broke out at Naingala village in Shamli district after members of a tribal community were allegedly evicted from their homes, police said today.
26 people have been named in the cases including the village head Mukeem and his son Nafees Ahmad, Police circle officer Kuldeep Kukreti said, adding that Ahmad was arrested yesterday.
22 people were injured in clashes that broke out on Thursday after supporters of the village head tried to forcibly evict the members of tribal community from their homes allocated under the Indira Awas scheme which led to a confrontation between the two groups, who used firearms and pelted stones at each other.
