Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has expressed his "disapproval" over superstar Aamir Khan's comments on intolerance.
Sinha, a BJP MP, said while he is fond of the "PK" star, he does not agree with the idea of India being labelled intolerant by Aamir, who kicked up a political storm by expressing "alarm and despondency" over the rise of such incidents in the country.
"Am fond of Amir Khan & family. But wholeheartedly disapprove of the idea of India being labelled intolerant by him and others too.
"Our vast motherland is inherently & essentially peace loving and respectful of every caste, creed, religion and celebrates communal harmony," Sinha, 69, posted on Twitter.
Sinha said Aamir-starrer "PK" would not have been such a success if India was intolerant.
"'PK', where Hindu Gods & Goddess were made fun of in no uncertain terms wud not have seen such success if India was intolerant."
Aamir, 50, has received flak from political parties and film industry colleagues like Anupam Kher, Raveena Tandon, Ramgopal Varma and Paresh Rawal over his remarks.
The actor followed up his interview with a statement yesterday, saying he and his family did not have any intention of leaving the country and he was a proud Indian.
"First let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future.
"I stand by everything that I have said in my interview. To all those people who are calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I am proud to be Indian, and I do not need anyone's permission nor endorsement for that," read the excerpts from Aamir's statement.
