Gunmen take 170 hostage at Radisson Hotel in Mali

About 140 guests are reportedly being held, along with 30 staff; report claims 5 killed

News reports say ten gunmen have taken 170 hostages at Radisson Hotel in Bamako, the capital of Mali, in west Africa. Out of these 170, 140 are guests and 30 are hotel employees. This hotel is a favorite amonf foreign tourists.

The Independent of UK reported that five persons have been killed in the attack. 

Mali is Africa's eighth largest country. Al Qaeda militants earlier this year took control of parts of north Mali, prompting an intervention by the French government, according to media reports. Mali is a former French colony.
