A resolution passed at the KPPC meeting here demanded that the government take legal action against the guilty, KPPC President V M Sudheeran told reporters.
The resolution also said that explanation given by CPI(M) after public protests was not acceptable. The CPI(M) had said that local leaders had made "an error".
The CPI(M) had come under attack from various quarters after pictures of a tableaux in which the 19th century Guru was seen "crucified" during the procession organised by the party backed outfit Balasangham in politically sensitive Kannur district on September 5 went viral on social media.
"Commitment to party, chances of winning and people's acceptance will be the main criteria for the selection of candidates for the polls," he said.
Sudheeran also exhorted party cadres to work unitedly and not indulge in "groupism". "No one should call group meetings," he said.
