Shubhankar Sharma gave another display of pure talent as he compiled a sensational 10-under 61 in the second round of the Joburg Open, a tri-sanctioned event between Asian, European and Sunshine Tours here.
The 21-year-old Shubhankar, who had a series of Top-10s on Asian Tour at the start of the season, then cooled off and was also hit by indisposition. Now he seems to have found his rhythm yet again.
A T-10 at Hong Kong Open and T-27 in Mauritius has energised him. He carded 3-under 69 on the first day at the Par-72 Firethorn course and then added 10-under 61 at the Bushwillow course.
At 13-under he is second and just one shot behind the leader, Finn Tapio Pulkkanen (64 at Firethorn), who won the Kazhakstan Open on European Challenge Tour this year.
The event is being played on two courses, Par-72 Firethorn and par-71 Bushwillow Course.
The event also has on offer three places into The Open at Carnoustie in July.
The top three players not otherwise exempt will get the spot and in case of a tie, the player with a better world ranking at the start of the week of The Open will get the spot.
Two players Mikko Korhonen (65) and Erik Van Rooyen (67) are Tied-3rd at 12-under, while three players, Daniel Brooks (67), Steven brown (65) and Joachim Hansen (67) are Tied-5th at 10-under.
