Dhawan amassed his 100 in just 85 balls and went on to forge an unbeaten 283-run opening partnership with Murali Vijay (83) to help India make a strong reply to Australia's first innings total of 408.
"It gave me immense pleasure in witnessing Shikhar score the fastest test century for a debutant today," the senior BCCI official said.
Shukla said Dhawan's experience in the domestic circuit helped him a lot today.
"Shikhar and Cheteshwar are both exceptionally talented cricketers who have the potential to be consistent performers for the Indian Cricket Team," he added.
Former Vice President of BCCI & Vice President of DDCA, CK Khanna also congratulated Dhawan for his fastest century in debut test match.
