Stung by sharp attack on him by the BJP recently, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling today claimed that the next assembly polls in the state will be fought between the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and rest of the opposition put together.
Chamling, the longest serving Chief Minister of the state, was reacting to the BJP national General Secretary Ram Madhav's attack on his government recently describing the ruling party as 'Sikkim Dictatorial Front' (SDF).
"The next assembly polls in Sikkim will be fought between the SDF and the entire opposition put together," he told an public meeting at Kyongsha in West Sikkim in support for his party candidates in panchayat elections.
Chamling, however, refrained from taking name of the BJP or Ram Madhav.
The assembly election in Sikkim is due in 2019.
He said the BJP leader's barbs at him amounted to an "insult" to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has "lavished fulsome praise" on Sikkim from time to time.
In order to bolster confidence of his party 's leaders and workers, the 67 year Chief Minister said that he will remain in active politics for another two decades or so and strive to serve the people to the best of his abilities.
Chamling is on a whirlwind tour for a week to campaign for his party candidates contesting panchayat elections even though his party has already won 52 per cent seats unopposed.
The polling for remaining 500 gram panchayat and 84 zilla panchayat seats will be held on November 3 next.
