The university, which was set up in 2008, also conferred honorary D.Sc degrees to scientists Prof Arun Kumar Sarma and Prof Sandip Kumar Chakravorty.
"Over seven years back, the University of Gour Banga was established to cater to the educational need of the three backward districts of West Bengal districts viz. Malda, Dakshin Dinajpur, & Uttar Dinajpur," Chancellor Keshari Nath Tripathi, also the state Governor, said on the occasion.
"While the University has made commendable progress, I would be less than honest if I were not to say that much more could have been done - much more needs to be done," he said.
Altogether 365 students got their certificates at the convocation.
