K Jothi Basu (ward no 43) and P V Subramanian (ward no 47) of DMK, squatted on the premises and alleged that the corporation failed to provide proper drinking water to their wards and also not maintaining the street lights, despite complaints.
Hearing about the incident, two more party councillors, J Mohan Ranganathan (ward no 33) and B Ragupathi (ward no 36) came and joined the duo.
The councillors claimed that the people of some areas in the ward were facing acute drinking water shortage and complaints fell on deaf ears. In some other areas, the street lights were not properly maintained.
Assistant commissioner of North Zone Saravanan directed the contractor to rectify the fault immediately and assured the councillors that the problems would be tackled on a war-footing in a couple of days.
