Based on a specific information, police laid a trap and nabbed a group of persons near a temple at Saroor Nagar, where they had come to complete the deal, an official said.
The newborn was rescued and will be handed over to the local Child Welfare Committee, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.
"The gang, led by one Kedavath Ravi, contacted a tribal couple in a village in Mahbubnagar district and offered to buy their newborn child," Bhagwat said.
According to police, the gang members planned to buy the newborn for Rs 15,000 and sell her to a prospective customer for Rs 80,000.
The accused were booked for trafficking of a minor under relevant sections of the IPC besides provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, police said, adding further probe was on.
