Six candidate have criminal cases against them

Of the 64 candidates who are in the poll fray in the first phase of voting in Assam and Tripura for Lok Sabha elections, six candidates have declared a total of eight criminal cases against them, a report has stated.
The report, prepared by National Election Watch (NEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), said that Hariprasad Dihingia of Asom Gana Parishad from Lakhimpur Constituency, Assam and Subal Bhowmik an Independent candidate from Tripura West Constituency, Tripura have declared the highest count of serious IPC charges.
They are followed by Moni Kumar Subba, an Independent candidate from Tezpur constituency, Assam with three serious IPC counts, the report said.
Bhowmik has declared a case related to attempt to murder, while Subba has declared a case related to rape, the report said.
As far as financial position of candidates is concerned, 16 out 64 candidates are crorepatis.
Tezpur candidate, Subba is the richest among 64 candidates with over Rs 306 crore, while Lakhimpur (Assam) candidate Hrishikesh Baruah has the lowest assets valued at just over Rs 9 thousand, according to the report.
Subba has also declared highest amount in liabilities at Rs 140 crore.
The average asset per candidate contesting in the first phase of 2014 Lok Sabha Elections is Rs 5.75 Crores, the report said.
