"We have arrested six accused, all hailing from Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh and recovered Rati's mobile phone from them. However, we haven't found the bag and another mobile phone which belongs to her yet," Special Director General of Police (Rail) Maithlisharan Gupt told reporters.
He said that a gang of dacoits used to target girls and women travelling in railway trains at night.
The accused, namely Chandan and Devi tried to snatch Rati's bag when she was asleep on Malwa Express on its way to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh from New Delhi.
However, as she woke up and grabbed Chandan's hair tightly after which Devi bit her hand to free Chandan, Gupt said.
With the help of the GRP, an injured Rati was rushed to Bina and then to Sagar. Later, Rati was admitted to a hospital in Bhopal where she gained her consciousness ten days ago, but she still unable to recognise anybody, he said.
He said that the accused Chandan, Devi, Chottalal Gadaria, Gulab Singh, Jahar Singh and Onkar have admitted their involvement in more than six cases of robbery on the train.
