Six persons who allegedly beat a 32-year-old man to death on suspicion of being a "thief" on the city outskirts, were today arrested, police said.
On May 22, N Balakrishna, an auto-driver, had gone to his relative's house at Jiyapally village.
A group of people caught hold of him and beat him up, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.
The group then took him to a spot near the Panchayat office, where again some more locals beat him up, the Commissioner said.
A relative of the victim and his friends tried to shift him to a hospital but he succumbed to injuries on the way.
The villagers beat up the victim indiscriminately suspecting him to be thief without giving him a chance to disclose his identity, Bhagwat said.
Efforts were on to nab the other absconding accused in the case, police said.
