Six wagons of an empty goods train derailed in nearby Vellore district today, resulting in delays of some passenger trains.
According to Southern Railway officials here, six wagons of the empty freight train derailed at Sevur railway station on the Katpadi-Jolarpettai section this morning, affecting movement on the double line section.
Overhead lines were not affected, nor were there any injuries to anybody, they said.
Top railway officials rushed to the spot to oversee restoration work.
Subsequently, eight long distance trains arriving at Chennai Central were delayed, even as seven outbound trains were rescheduled by about two hours each, they said.
