Skill development centres for differently abled: Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said the government has decided to open training and skill development centres for persons with disabilities in each district of the state to bring them into the mainstream.
The new buildings to be constructed would be made conducive to the physically challenged for their convenience, he said.
Khattar was speaking during a 'Social Empowerment Camp' and free distribution of aids and appliances function organised by Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Social Justice and Empowerment Department Haryana under the aegis of Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) Kanpur in Kurukshetra.

The Chief Minister distributed aids and appliances to about 3,100 divyangs worth Rs 2.12 crore.
He said the government has distributed aids and appliances to 10,000 physically challenged and about one lakh more such beneficiaries would be given these appliances.

Haryana government plans to reduce rates of electricity for new units to be set up in the state, Khattar told reporters in Panchkula.
He said the state government had given a proposal to this effect to the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC), the regulatory agency for power tariff. A final decision would be taken soon, subject to approval by the HERC, he said.

In reply to a question, he said the previous government had "instigated the people not to pay their outstanding electricity bills".
"There were about 32 lakh metered connections in 55 lakh households in the state at that time. Due to the efforts made by the present government during the last two years, things are beginning to improve and 24-hour electricity is being supplied in villages under 32 feeders. Panchkula district has been covered under this scheme," Khattar said.
He said there are 74 feeders in the state where line losses aggregate more than 90 per cent.
The Electricity Department has issued notices for getting the line losses lowered on such feeders otherwise supply of electricity would be reduced in these areas, the Chief Minister said.

He added that budget session of the Vidhan Sabha would begin on February 27.
