Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey on Friday reviewed the World Bank assisted SANKALP programme at its first governance board meeting here.

In the meeting, it was informed that all 36 states/UTs across the country have submitted their consent for participation in Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP), a release said.

It was also informed that first year grants have been released by the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry to nine states including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, it said.

Besides, state grants of Rs 10 lakh each have also been released to 117 aspirational districts under Aspirational Skilling Abhiyaan.

Pandey mentioned that efforts need to be taken for strengthening the district skilling ecosystem. He observed that the perception of youth towards skilling needs to be improved and suggested that District Skill Committee (DSC) should play a pivotal role in counselling youth in their districts, the release said.

SANKALP is a centrally sponsored programme of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship with a special focus on decentralised planning and quality improvement. It focuses on the overall skilling ecosystem covering both central and state agencies.
