Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, avalanche threat in higher areas

Avalanche threat loomed large over high altitude tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh as another spell of moderate to heavy snowfall lashed the higher reaches while the mid and lower hills received widespread rains.
Light snowfall was experienced in Shimla, which received 37 mm of rains and minimum temperature plummeted to 2.2 degree Celsius while Bharmaur, Keylong and Kalpa recorded a low of minus 12.0 degree, minus 4.7 degree and minus 1.8 degree C.
Keylong in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district recorded 35 cm of snow while Kufri, Fagu, Narkanda, Sangla and Khara-Patthar received 15 to 25 cm of snow.
Intermittent heavy rains lashed the mid and lower hills of Himachal while higher reaches and tribal areas had another spell of moderate snowfall as stormy conditions prevailed in the region for the second day.
Vehicular traffic on Hindustan-Tibet National Highway was disrupted but the road remained open.
Jubbal in Shimla district was wettest with 60 mm rains, while tourist resort of Manali had 48 mm of rains, followed by Tissa 47 mm, Kheri 45 mm, Saloni 37 mm, Kotkhai 36 mm, Khndhaghat 32 mm, Baldwara 30 mm, Karsog 28 mm, Solan 26 mm, Kasauli 25 mm, Rajgarh, Dharampur and Sunni Bhajji 24 mm each.
The inclement weather would continue tomorrow, local MeT office said.
