The Turkish rider registered the fastest lap of 1'48.417 to finish third in today's qualifying behind Sam Lowes of Yakhnich Motorsport and Florian Marino of Kawasaki Intermoto.
However, Sofuoglu would not be bothered much about starting third on the grid as the rider holds the record of registering majority of his victories when not starting from pole position.
Mahi Racing's other rider, Fabien Foret, will start on the third row after qualifying in ninth position.
