Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd (IRFC) and Ajmer Division of North Western Railway have signed a memorandum of understanding for installation of eco-friendly solar plants here today.
The solar power plants, of a total capacity of 280 KWp, would be installed at Marwar, Rani, Falna and Ranapratap Nagar (Udaipur) stations to cater to the electrical needs of the rail premises.
"The green project, estimated to cost Rs 3.29 crore, will be borne by IRFC through its CSR funds, according to a release.
With this, a total of eight stations in Ajmer Division will be covered with solar plants using Corporate Social Responsibility funds (CSR) funds. The other stations are Ajmer, Udaipur, Bhilwara and Abu Road.
Solar plants will generate approximately 5 lakh units of electricity per year and thus there will be a huge saving of Rs 32.50 lakh per year by bringing down the divisional electricity bill, it said, adding that the life expectancy of these solar panels is around 25 years.
It will also help in reducing the carbon footprint of Ajmer division by 456 ton per annum (approx) thus total reduction of carbon emission will be 11400 ton during its complete life cycle thus helping environment, the release said.
