Expressing deep anguish and sorrow over the death of 23 people in NDFB(S) militant attacks in two communally-sensitive districts of Assam, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today decried the role of sectarian and militant groups.
Condoling the death of victims in the attacks in two communally-sensitive districts of Kokrajhar and Baksa of Assam, Gandhi said, "the inherent plurality of India will never let divisive and violent forces succeed."
She said Congress party and the entire country stand with the family of those killed in the attack.
According to a statement from the party, Gandhi is in constant touch with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on the issue.
At least 23 persons, including children and women, were killed and 14 seriously injured by heavily armed NDFB(S) militants in two communally-sensitive districts of Kokrajhar and Baksa of Assam since last night.
Shoot-at-sight was ordered and indefinite curfew imposed tonight in Kokrajhar and Baksa districts, falling under Bodoland Territorial Administration Districts (BTAD) area, which bore the brunt of the violence.
