The health condition of legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who is admitted to a city hospital, has improved, sources in it said on Thursday.
The Dadasaheb Phalke awardee's daughter Poulami Basu, who visited him during the day, said he is still under observation at the intensive care unit.
The hospital statement had said on Wednesday after Chatterjee's admission that he is suffering from respiratory tract infection and is out of danger.
"His (Chatterjee's) condition is fine, he has improved," a hospital source said on Thursday evening.
"Baba talked to me this morning but due to cough he had difficulty in speaking. He has been advised not to speak much," Basu told PTI.
To a question, Basu said the doctors did not tell the family how long Chatterjee would be kept in the ICU. "We have been told he will be under observation for some more time."
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a tweet on Thursday, "Celebrated film personality, Soumitra Chatterjee is ill and undergoing treatment in hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Actor Shankar Chakraborty, who went to visit the feted actor at the hospital but could not meet him due to restrictions, said, "I heard from the hospital and his family that he is in stable condition and is showing signs of improvement. We all pray for his speedy recovery."
