SP, BSP doing caste-based politics: BJP

Talking to the reporters here Tandon made an attempt to clarify that his party was not in favour of any constitutional amendment for reservation in promotion, due to which any section, including forward or backward may feel that their rights were being violated.

Giving clarification on voting in favour on the bill in Rajya Sabha, the BJP leader said that under pressure from BSP, Congress wanted to get it passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday itself, but it did not happened due to tough stance taken by the party and Parliament was adjourned sine die.

He alleged that when senior leader L K Advani stood to demand handing over the bill to the Supreme Court for seeking its opinion, SP members created pandemonium and he was not allowed to speak.

The senior leader claimed that BJP got the bill amended and a provision was included that reservation should not be more than 21 per cent and seniority and merit also be taken into consideration.

Accusing the SP and BSP of indulging into caste and religion politics, Tandon said that SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav raised the demand of reservation to Muslims in accordance with their population in the Lok Sabha, even when there was no provision of religion based reservation in the Constitution.
