Shadab Beg, the nephew of MLA Jahid Beg, was arrested yesterday. The incident took place on April 8 when the girl was returning home on her scooty. Shadab and his friends stopped her in a market, beat her up and tore off her clothes, police said.
An FIR was registered against Shadab under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman) of IPC at Bhadohi police station.
Reacting to the incident, the MLA said, "My name is being maligned unnecessarily. Law will take its own course.
