In the wake of sacrilege incidents, a spate of resignations is being witnessed in Punjab, including in Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), with a total of 15 members quitting the body.
Two SGPC members Surinder Singh and Surjit Singh Tugalwal resigned from the religious body's general House today, raising to 15 the number of the members to quit the body.
The resignations were seen even in the political parties in the wake of the sacrilege incidents. Among those to quit were Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Akali Dal Political Affairs Committee member Sukhdev Singh Bhaur and former Rajya Sabha member from Akali Dal Varinder Singh Bajwa.
Police has arrested two 'granthis' (sikh priests) and a woman in connection with sacrilege incidents at a village in Amritsar and Ludhiana district.
Meanwhile, the protests by sikh activists continued at various places across the state.
