Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Anant Shet on Wednesday allowed the no confidence motion against the state government moved by Opposition.

Leader of Opposition Pratapsinh Rane had on Tuesday moved a no confidence motion against the state government for "failing to govern" the House.

The Speaker took up the notice issued by Rane, which was put to vote.

10 MLAs, all from Opposition, stood in support of the motion.

"Since one-fifth members supported the notice, it would be taken up for consideration. The date for discussion on the motion would be decided in consultation with the Leader of the House," Shet said.

"We have taken strong objection on the way chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and former Speaker Rajendra Arlekar were trying to handle the Assembly," Rane had told reporters.

He had said the motion also opposes state Public Works Department Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar's demand to raise water tariff by five per cent on the floor of the House.
