Banerjee told PTI that some Left Front MLAs had approached him and sought protection for Sardar after he was allegedly manhandled and humiliated by Trinamool Congress supporters.
He said as per reports given to him by the SP, Sardar had made a provocative speech and taken out a procession without obtaining permission from the authorities.
"This act of Sardar had created a commotion in the area following which he was allegedly manhandled and humiliated," he said.
