26-year-old SPO Ishtiaq Ahmed was run over by a Srinagar-bound speeding MUV when asked to stop for routine checking at the police cordon near Shan Palace in Ramban district around 1:30 AM, a police officer said.
He was initially rushed to district hospital Ramban and after first aid referred to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu, but he succumbed to his injuries on way to Jammu at Chenani in Udhampur district, he said.
The driver of the vehicle escaped from the spot but was chased by the police at Ramsu in Ramban district, he said adding the accused driver has been identified as Tausif Ahmed of Anantnag in Kashmir.
