Young Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth, who created history by winning the China Super Series Premier title, returned home today to a warm welcome from family members, friends and colleagues.
The 21-year-old shuttler, who defeated five-time world champion and a two-time Olympic champion, Lin Dan in the finals in Fuzhou, said winning the prestigious title was incredible.
"I never thought that I could win the title beating Lin Dan," he said.
Srikanth became the first Indian male shuttler to win a Super Series Premier title when he defeated Dan 21-19 21-17 in the summit clash.
The Guntur lad dedicated the victory to his parents and chif national coach Pullela Gopichand.
Srikanth, who won the Thailand Grand Prix Gold title last year, competed at the USD 350,000 Hong Kong Super Series but lost to reigning top seed Chen Long of China in the semi-final.
