Srirangam bypoll: Nominations of 34 candidates found valid

Nominations of 34 candidates, including those from AIADMK, BJP and DMK, in the February 13 byelection to Srirangam assembly constituency were found valid during scrutiny today.
Of the total 46 nominations filed, twelve were not eligible and rejected, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena said.
The nomination of BJP candidate M Subramaniam, opposed by the AIADMK on the ground that he had not mentioned about an FIR against him in a criminal case, was also accepted.
AIADMK has fielded C Valarmathi, DMK N Anand and CPI-M K Annadurai for the prestigious bypoll, caused by the disqualification of AIAMK supremo Jayalalithaa following the four-year jail term awarded to her by a court in the disproportionate assets case.

Congress, PMK and MDMK have announced they would not neither enter the fray nor support any other party, alleging use of money power.
