SSB-APF Nepal coordination meeting

The border guarding forces of India and Nepal have discussed smuggling of arms, explosives, drugs, contraband items and fake Indian currency notes at a coordination committee meeting here, officials said.

The 10th DIG level coordination meeting between Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) of India and Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal also discussed challenges like encroachment on 'No-Mans Land', in-filtration and ex-filtration, smuggling of wildlife products and human trafficking faced by both forces, an official release said on Saturday.

Issues like repair and reconstruction of damaged and missing border pillars, identification of likely routes to be used by smugglers and criminals and prevention of anti-social elements/criminals across the border were also discussed in n the meeting which was held here on Friday, the release said.

The DIG, HQ, SSB Gangtok, Bishwajeet Kumar Pal stressed on the significance of the meeting in the backdrop of age-old historical ties between the people of India and Nepal and outlined the need for a stronger coordination and co- operation between both the forces deployed on the both sides of the border to keep the Indo-Nepal Border safe and secure.

DlG, Sunsari Brigade, APF Nepal, Nagendra Bahadur Thapa said that Nepal has the deep cultural and social relationship with India and there is a strong need for working together on developing mutual trust, understanding and professional brotherhood.

He assured that steps would be taken to strengthen mutual understanding and co-operation between the two forces, the release added.
