Ten minors, allegedly being trafficked, have been rescued from Patliputra railway station in Bihar after a constable of border guarding force SSB noticed their movements.
The incident was reported late yesterday night when Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) constable P V Raju was on his way home on leave when he saw ten children with a couple who, officials said, were not looking "like a family".
They said Raju, sensing something amiss, called up his commanding officer who alerted the forces' control room here.
The message was soon relayed to GRP authorities who subsequently reached the railway station and arrested the couple on the charge of alleged trafficking.
They said two other people were later arrested in the case.
"Instances of children and women trafficking are seen often in these locations which have proximity to Nepal border. It was the sharp presence of mind on the part of Raju that he timely alerted the authorities and saved ten children from possibly getting trafficked.
"Knowing the developments, SSB chief Archana Ramasundaram rewarded him and he will be recommended for a commendation," a senior SSB official at the SSB headquarters in Delhi said.
Raju belongs to the 13th SSB battalion deployed in Piprakoti in East Champaran district of Bihar and the unit is tasked for securing the Indo-Nepal International Border (IB) running along the state.
