Simon Pegg, who is writing the script with Doug Jung, did hint that "Star Trek 3" would take the USS Enterprise into uncharted territory.
Justin Lin will take over the helming duty from JJ Abrams, who's busy with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
The film is set to open on July 8, 2016 Stateside. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, and Zoe Saldana will reprise their respective roles. They will be joined by new member Idris Elba who will play a new original "kickass" character.
