Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has decided to release the director JJ Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness" a week before its international release on May 17. The film serves as a sequel to the 2009 high-octane movie "Star Trek".
"For the story to move forward, this had to be a more ambitious movie than the first. The action and the scale are light years ahead. Bringing IMAX and 3D technology in will give audiences yet another level of excitement and fun to be had," said JJ Abrams in a statement.
Director has returned with the cast of "Star Trek" for his latest film.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Bruce Greenwood will reprise their roles from the previous film. The two new faces in the film are Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve.
"Star Trek Into Darkness" will release in Imax and 3D in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
