The complainant, a labourer, alleged that five miscreants barged into his house in Saniganva yesterday and raped his 38-year-old wife at gunpoint.
He also said the intruders looted Rs 30,000 and other valuables from the house, police said.
The labourer had earlier approached Chakeri police station with his complaint but the station incharge Rajiv Dwivedi asked him to come the next day, sources said.
The complainant then took the matter to senior officers.
Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur then got the FIR filed and formed a team to investigate the case.
Meanwhile, the woman has been sent for medical examination.
