Steps taken to ensure security of civilians: DGP

Odisha Police chief K B Singh today said steps were being taken to ensure security of the civilians who often become target of the left wing extremists in Kalahandi and nearby districts.
"We reviewed the crime and naxal situation in Kalahandi district where couple of incidents have been reported recently. We have detected movement of few naxal groups in the district and nearby areas for which we are framing our strategy," the DGP told reporters here.
Stating that the police would soon step up anti-maoist operation in Kalahandi district, the DGP said he has discussed the strategies to be adopted by the security personnel with senior police officers.

He said movement of certain maoist groups have been located in Kalahandi. "We will give priority to protection of civilians," Singh said.
He said the police will act aggressively to combat the Naxal menace.
Replying a question, the DGP said all the vacant posts in police department in the district will be filled up within three months and recruitment is in the process.
He said all the police stations, mostly in border areas, will be fortified with more force deployment.
Among others Director intelligence Sunil Rai, IGP R.P Koche, DIG South-West range S Saine, SOG commanders Krishna Kumar and Sukanta Acharya and SP Kalahandi Brijesh Rai attended the review meeting.
