Acting on a tip off, Mehdi Hasan was arrested from near Baskhari Purvi crossing this afternoon and five .32 bore pistols with nine magazines were recovered from his possession, an STF spokesperson said.
During interrogation Hasan said that he came in contact with one Irfan, a resident of Bihar, while they were both in Gorakhpur jail, and later on coming out they started smuggling firearms, the spokesperson said.
Irfan used to send arms made in Bihar through his sources till Varanasi from where Hasan used to take them, he said, adding that the arms purchased at Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 were sold for Rs 20,000 - Rs 25,000.
